Living At Night Requires An Open Imagination
The return of Jukebox Babe party in Paris curated by Marine Neuilly
I stole this quote from Jim Jarmusch ! He wrote an introduction for a great book of photography by Godlis called History Is Made At Night. I’m so glad I got this book while I was in New York years ago because it think it is sold out…
Anyway, as a preface he wrote:
“ The night has always been my preferred time to be awake, especially in a city like New York (or Paris or Berlin). Nocturnal creatures are very different from those who prefer the sharp clarity of daylight. More wolves than sheep.
At night the edges lose definition, a dark energy inhabiting the shadowed areas, black angles cutting into artificial light… In the city every corner or recess, doorway or alley becomes mysterious, alive with a constantly shifting variety of possibilities.
One must be ready for them. Living at night requires an open imagination. In NYC in 1976 it was necessary just for survival. ”
Few years ago in Paris, a night club asked me to curate a residency party that I called Jukebox Babe in reference to Alan Vega’s famous song. But after only 2 parties we had to cancel it because of the epidemic of Covid.
We all have been impacted by this traumatic experience and in the end, I like to think some things happen for a reason or don’t (for a reason).
We have to value time and be grateful for the experience. Good things take time. This is so precious to remind ourselves as we all live in this new digital era that good things take time. Sometimes, it takes years before a project come to life.
I kept the instagram account, I made mixes with musicians friends & DJs and today it feels right again! Right on time to celebrate brighter days, let’s all have an amazing party together in Paris :)
You are all truly invited to the 1st edition of Jukebox Babe with an amazing line up!
(All female artists and it was not on purpose :)
To get in the mood, here is a video I recorded from home to celebrate the release of my first track called “Je Prefere Ça” as an hommage to Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin famous crossover interview. A lots of things to celebrate this month!
It’s all happening.
